[10/28/2011] Preview: Scott Joplin, "The Entertainer" (continued)

>

In the video clip, we hear one sort of performance of "The Entertainer." Now we're going to hear a rather different sort, from the aforementioned first Joshua Rifkin Nonesuch LP.

One or two? One or two? I thinks it's two but it could well be one. How I love a good rag.

Um, I need a better hint, Robert. It's one if by land, two if by sea, I know. Does that help?

I don't know if this is the question, but Joshua Rifkin's "Entertainer" is, as I noted, from the first Nonesuch LP, pictured, which wasn't called Vol. 1 because nobody involved had any idea that there would be a Vol. 2, let alone a Vol. 3.

I planned to mention Sunday (and will again) that the 24 selections on the three Nonesuch LPs had been boiled down to 17 that fit on a single CD.

Cheers,
Ken
